Meet Jack and Barrett:

Having a family was always a dream for Amy and Jayna, after a journey with invitro fertilization, they found out they were pregnant with triplet boys. At 20 weeks gestation, the pregnancy took a turn, and Amy had an emergency procedure, followed by bed rest. It was important to reach 24 weeks for these boys to have a chance. At 24 weeks and two days, the boys were delivered by emergency c-section. Amy and Jayna welcomed Barrett, one pound eight ounces, Leighton one pound six ounces, and Jack one pound nine ounces. At four days old Leighton passed; the pain for Amy and Jayna was unimaginable, but they knew they had to hold strong for Jack and Barrett who had a long road ahead. Over the next several months both boys faced numerous challenges. Jack had to be life-flighted to Sioux Falls, SD for emergency bowel surgery. During this time Amy and Jayna had to split their time between the boys in two locations. Fifty-three days later, Barrett would join his brother in Sioux Falls for a PDA ligation, and it was determined Jack would need the same surgery, so both boys had the heart procedure on the same day. At 37 weeks gestational age, Jack was able to go home and after 111 days in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) Barrett was also able to go home. The care and support they received through donations to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals travel assist fund and NICVIEW cameras allowed Amy and Jayna to travel back and forth to see their boys and view them through the cameras when they couldn’t physically be there. After being given a 15% chance of survival, Jack and Barrett are true miracles and the family is forever grateful to Monument Health and the fund provided through Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals that supported them along the way.   Today, Jack and Barrett are active and thriving seven-year-olds and their moms are amazed by them every day.

Donations to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals provided state-of-the-art equipment in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), travel assistance for Jack and Barrett‘s parents so they could travel between home and two different hospitals as well as be able to view their boys through NICVIEW cameras when they couldn’t physically be there, providing comfort during the most trying moments of their lives.
